Oops, I Watched It

Oops, I was planning on avoiding all media today. So I made the stupid mistake of meeting my husband for lunch at a restaurant full of big screen TVs all tuned to CNN from 11:30 to 12:30. One of the TVs was directly over my head. Well at least I kept my lunch down.

Some highlights: an invocation from Reverend Joseph Lowery that asked God to "help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right." Excuse me? Whites need to work for the day when they can embrace what is right? Maybe some day blacks won't be asked to give back? Excuse me? Wasn't he at the inauguration of the first black president and he's still crying racism? Pathetic.

And then there was Obama's lovely speech. First, it was extremely depressing, full of doom and gloom. I guess if he tells us how truly horrible things are, and that they are going to get worse, then we can't be disappointed if he hasn't lifted the US out of its troubles in his first term and we'll have to re-elect him.

His speech contained lines like
- we will "roll back the specter of a warming planet" (it was 36 degrees at Bush's inauguration in 2004 and 26 degrees today, and scientists admit the earth has been cooling for the last 3 years, but don't worry, Obama will save us from a warming planet).

- "the nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous"

- "the question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works" (can you just feel the government getting bigger with his every breath?)
Yuck!
