Obama's Press Conference

I watched a few minutes of his press conference tonight. I am torn between wanting to gather material for my Obama-nations and get a good laugh, and being nauseated when I see him.

Apparently, you are allowed to tell outright lies with a straight face during a press conference. My two personal favorites out of the very few minutes I watched:

(1) limiting the charitable deductions available to wealthy people won't harm charities - I worked for a couple of years with a nonprofit and I assisted rich people with their tax planning as it related to charitable deductions. While they were very generous people, to say that they are going to give the same amount to charities regardless of the tax deduction they receive is completely absurd.

(2) My favorite quote: "And in this budget, we have — we have to make the tough choices necessary to cut our deficit in half by the end of my first term, even under the most pessimistic estimates. At the end of the day, the best way to bring our deficit down in the long run is not with a budget that continues the very same policies that have led us to a narrow prosperity and massive debt. It's with a budget that leads to broad economic growth by moving from an era of borrow and spend to one where we save and invest."

So his budget is moving from an era of borrow and spend to one where we save and invest? What planet is this guy living on? Has he seen his own projected deficits for the next 10 years?
